The Basics

What Is Spain's Digital Nomad Visa?

Introduced under Spain's Startup Law in January 2023, the Digital Nomad Visa (officially the "Visa for International Teleworkers") allows non-EU nationals — including UK citizens post-Brexit — to live legally in Spain while working remotely for clients or employers based outside Spain.

It is specifically designed for: remote employees working for a foreign company, freelancers with international clients, and digital entrepreneurs running online businesses. At least 80% of your income must come from outside Spain. You may serve Spanish clients but they cannot exceed 20% of total income.

Spain #1 globally: Spain topped the 2026 Digital Nomad Visa Index, beating Malta and Portugal. Warm climate, affordable cities and excellent infrastructure make it the standout choice for UK remote workers.

Gather 3–6 months of bank statements and employment contracts or client invoices showing consistent income of €2,800+/month from non-Spanish sources.

2

Gather and apostille UK documents

ACRO criminal record certificate (apply at ACRO office, allow 4 weeks), UK birth certificate if adding family. All must be apostilled by the FCDO.

3

Get certified Spanish translations

All non-Spanish documents must be translated by a sworn translator (traductor jurado). Your agrin.uk consultant can recommend accredited translators.

4

Obtain private health insurance

Purchase a qualifying Spanish health insurance policy. Must cover all risks in Spain with no co-payments. Popular providers include Sanitas, Adeslas and Asisa.

Apply at the Spanish Consulate in London (for most UK residents), Edinburgh or Manchester. Book online via the consulate website — appointments fill quickly.

Yes, UK nationals are fully eligible. Applications are submitted at the Spanish Consulate in London, Edinburgh or Manchester depending on your UK address of residence. agrin.uk handles the full application process on your behalf.
